George “Slay” Schlemeyer
Vice President, Public Sector
George L. “Slay” Schlemeyer, SR/WA,
has over 20 years experience in commercial real
estate and right of way acquisition. Slay
started leasing and selling commercial real estate
in Austin, then joined the Texas Department of
Transportation’s Austin District, where he
was a Right of Way Agent for eleven years. He
earned his SR/WA designation during his tenure
at TXDOT and was a member of the City/State Right
of Way Task Force responsible for acquiring hundreds
of parcels along US 183, US 290 East/West and IH
35 in Austin.
In 2000, Slay decided to use the experience and
expertise gained from his TXDOT negotiations to
tackle the Public Sector from a corporate position. Slay
joined Contract Land Staff to serve as Project
Manager for various Texas-based projects in Austin,
Dallas, Garland, Georgetown, McAllen, New Braunfels,
San Antonio and Waco, and was promoted to Division
Manager. Slay was recently named Vice President
for Public Sector where he is a member of the CLS
management team. Slay’s responsibilities
include business development for the division as
well as managing a team that acquires right of
way for city/state transportation and infrastructure
projects throughout the state of Texas.
A graduate
of the University of Texas at Austin, Slay earned
his SR/WA designation in 1998 and has been an active
member and officer of Chapter 74. Throughout
his years of service, Slay served as Secretary,
Vice President, President Elect and President of
IRWA Chapter 74. Schlemeyer was named “Professional
of the Year” by Chapter 74 in 1999. Slay
stays active in the IRWA by participating in local
chapter functions and attending the International
and Region 2 seminars.
